Wayfarers and Citizens

1995-2015

The Church lives in time and place, but she does not identify herself with the systems of this age, and she cannot be conformed to the mentality of this world. She is open to all and is not confined within human schemes and different kinds of divisions. She has other aims and priorities, and because of that she deals with all sorts of problems in a spiritual way, looking towards eternal life.

This is the perspective from which we should view the articles published in this book. They are talks delivered during the first twenty years of Metropolitan Hierotheos’s episcopate (1995-2015) to various audiences inside and outside Greece. As ‘wayfarers and citizens’ we live, move and are citizens in place and time. Although we belong to an earthly regime, our life is defined by the heavenly regime and the spiritual laws that inspire it.

Christians can live in any country whatsoever, under any conditions and political choices, but they remain in their real home, which the Church, and are inspired by the life of Christ and the heavenly city.
