Old and New Rome
There are widespread discussions nowadays about relations and dialogues between the Orthodox Church and the Christians of different Confessions. Many people are in some confusion about spiritual and ecclesiastical life, because theology is mixed with religious conjecture and syncretism, which have no connection with Orthodox life.
In the book Old and New Rome his Eminence the Metropolitan Hierotheos refers to two cities - old Rome and new Rome - with a great ecclesiastical tradition and culture, with a life based on hesychia and spiritual vigilance. They are the ancient (old Rome) and the new capital (new Rome) of the Roman State, which today, however, express two different traditions with regard to theology and culture.
