The Faith of the Saints
The hesychastic and empirical Philokalic theology in the twenty-first century is presented using contemporary language and thinking.
The faith of the Church is God’s revelation to the saints and not human speculation. It is the faith revealed to the God-seeing saints, and then the revelation handed down to those who strive to become saints.
The Prophets, Apostles, Fathers and Saints down through the centuries are referred to as deified, because they share in God’s uncreated energy, through purification, illumination and deification.
Those who have this faith are called ‘recipients’, because they receive this ‘divine gift’; ‘guardians’, because they keep it like the apple of their eye; and ‘transmitters’, because they pass it on to all who long for their salvation.
This book records this theology of the saints, according to the words of the Synodikon of Orthodoxy, that we proceed “according to the divinely inspired theologies of the saints and the devout mind of the Church.”
A small gospel of Orthodox theology.
